The biggest issue facing the electronics repair industry is a lack of transparency in pricing and diagnosis, according to Suresh Velusamy, Co-Founder and CEO of EDIO.
The same screen replacement might cost ₹2,000 at one shop and ₹5,000 at another, and a customer may be told a motherboard is dead when only a small component needs replacing. Customers have no way to verify the diagnosis, no standard price reference and no guarantee of the parts used.
The result is that customers do not trust repair shops. Many throw away repairable devices or overpay out of fear, and honest technicians lose business to those who oversell.
A standard report before any work begins
Velusamy proposes a standardised digital diagnosis for every device that comes in: a clear report of what is broken, which part needs replacing and whether it is original or compatible, shared with the customer before work starts. Paired with a published rate card for common repairs by model, it would reward fair work and organise the market around trust.
“Transparency isn’t just good ethics”
EDIO’s SmartClone, which combines diagnostics and firmware recovery in one device, is built to make accurate, verifiable diagnosis possible even at the smallest local shop.
